Communication shapes how we connect, learn, and express ourselves. When speech or language challenges make it difficult to communicate, it can impact confidence, relationships, and daily life. Speech therapy helps individuals develop the skills they need to speak clearly, understand others, and communicate with ease.

Why Speech and Language Therapy?

What is a Speech and Language Disorder?

A speech and language disorder happens when someone has difficulty speaking, understanding, or using words effectively. This can include trouble pronouncing sounds, forming sentences, or processing what others say. These challenges can affect children and adults in different ways, making communication harder in school, work, and social settings.

A speech-language pathologist (SLP) is a licensed professional who evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, and communication disorders. SLPs work with children and adults to improve speech clarity, language skills, fluency, and social communication, helping them express themselves with confidence.

What is a Speech-Language Pathologist?

Speech therapy helps improve communication by strengthening speech clarity, language skills, and confidence. A speech-language pathologist (SLP) provides personalized evidence-based strategies to help individuals express themselves better, whether it’s through clearer speech, stronger vocabulary, or better conversation skills.

What Does Speech and Language Therapy do?

  • Speech Sounds (Articulation)

Some children/adults have trouble saying certain sounds clearly. They might leave out, change, or replace sounds in words. This is called a speech sound disorder. We can help improve their speech!

  • Receptive Language (Understanding Language)

Some have trouble understanding what others say. This can make it hard to follow directions, learn new words, or stay engaged in conversations. Receptive language difficulties can affect both children and adults and may be linked to autism, hearing loss, brain injury, or other conditions. If you or your child need support, we’re here to help.

  • Expressive Language (Using Language)

Expressive language difficulties make it hard to put thoughts into words. A person may struggle with forming sentences, flowing their sentence structure, using correct grammar, or finding the right words. This can happen in children who are delayed in language development or in adults due to conditions like brain injury, autism, or Down syndrome. If communication is a challenge, we can help.

  • Pragmatic Language (Social Skills)

Social communication skills help us connect with others. This includes choosing the right words, using the right tone, making eye contact, and understanding body language. If you or your child struggle with social interactions, we can provide strategies to improve communication and confidence in daily life.

  • Cognitive Communication (Thinking & Communication)

Cognitive-communication skills help us focus, remember things, solve problems, and organize our thoughts. These skills are important for both children and adults and can be affected by brain injury, stroke, or other conditions. We can work on strengthening attention, memory, and problem-solving to improve communication and daily functioning.
